| human rights lose to business interests ::
The U.S. is trying to block a lawsuit against Exxon Mobil alleging that the company knew of human rights abuses by soldiers guarding its facilities in Indonesia. Along with claiming that the lawsuit will somehow impede the war on terrorism, the State Department is arguing that "the action could hurt U.S. business interests in Indonesia, and discourage foreign investment."
Even now, nearly two years into Bush's term, I have trouble believing that the government of the United States could do something so unforgiveably craven.
